Geert Talsma

Much of what we use is rarely given any value. Products are used for minutes, sometimes only seconds, before being discarded. Clothing, plastics, and furniture are made quickly, consumed quickly, and replaced without a second thought. My work begins with the belief that design can challenge that logic and help us value materials, objects, and systems differently.
I'm Geert Talsma and I am an industrial designer and researcher. I develop projects centred on sustainability, circularity, and social impact. Operating under the names byGreenFrog and Traag, my work spans material innovation, recycling systems, and durable product design.
Through byGreenFrog, plastic waste is transformed into value across the full recycling process, from developing machinery to manufacturing end products. One of the key projects, Waste to Infrastructure in Ghana, is developed in collaboration with Engineers Without Borders NL and the University of Twente Humanitarian Engineering group. The project focuses on developing a recycled plastic brick and its local production process in order to construct school washrooms in Ghana. In 2025, this work won the UNESCO World Engineering Day Hackathon.
With Traag, my work takes a clear position against fast furniture: cheap, low quality pieces that are quickly discarded, replaced, or left behind. Instead, Traag aims to create durable, high quality furniture made from sustainable materials, designed to be lived with, cared for, and kept. It embraces a slower approach to making.
