Breeding Ground
Based in Enschede,
The Netherlands

There is no final version.
No complete work.
No fixed outcome.

Emphasis is on process, not product.
On relationships, not resolutions.
On iteration, not completion.

Starting is enough.
Unlearning is part of the work.
Rebuilding is always possible.

Context matters.
Failure offers insight.
Change is a constant.

This is a site of endless construction.
Structures are temporary.
Outcomes are open-ended.

Uncertainty is part of the method.
What breaks can be reshaped.
What’s missing can be an entry point.

This is a continuous practice.
Always in progress.
Perpetual reconstruction.

Black Brick is an postdisciplinary studio space with a focus on media arts. It provides subsidized workspaces for research-minded artists and provides them with community, support and tools. Collectively we organize, produce, present, perform and teach.

Originally started in a 700m2 basement, Black Brick fosters a strong DIY culture with a purpose-first attitude to making and presenting. The lifelong credo of the group is therefore:

Underground Culture Should be Started Underground
